Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy?

August 2018

Lake Geneva, Montreux, Switzerland. A long-held dream of mine to visit and that dream finally came true!

I've always wanted to visit this lake to pay tribute to the greatest singer of all time. I speak, of course, of Mr Freddie Mercury. He and the rest of the band Queen owned a studio on the shores of Lake Geneva and recorded seven albums there. In honour of Freddie they erected a bronze statue and created the Queen Studio Experience where you can visit what was formerly Mountain Studios, view original costumes and hand-written lyrics and mix a couple of tracks!

We were planning to go from Sicily to Portugal and when Mike found a flight that went via Geneva, we made it an overnight stopover so I could have my fan-moment.

As it turned out, just over 24 hours was enough - Switzerland is EXPENSIVE!  We caught the train to Montreux, a swift hour and forty minutes and an equally swift €140.00 return.

We found our AirBnB (room this time, we did not have the budget for a whole apartment!), then visited Freddie. He was beautiful.

I had my heart set on trying fondue (when in Switzerland) and fondue we tried. Expensive, cheesy goodness.

The next day we wandered around the lake to view the impressive Chillon Castle. It was indeed impressive and the vistas of the lake were breath-taking.

On more visit to see Fred and it was time for our final activity - the Queen Studio Experience! This was ironically free and I would have paid good money for it. Seeing so much original material in person was magical. Getting to play with the songs and listen to just the vocal tracks or just the percussion... they were an undeniably incredible band. For me, the greatest band of all time, so it was a bit of an emotional experience.

And thus wrapped up our whirlwind tour of Montreux, Switzerland! Long live the Queen!
