Cymru bound (Wales!)

May 2017

Road trip!

It was Early May Bank Holiday and we had decided to spend it in Wales to visit Mike's Aunty, Anne. This was Mike's first visit - I had been last year with Mum.

Off we trundled in our hire car; first night in a remote Welsh village pub and the second with Anne in Tenby. Mike was our driver and I was navigator (read: Google was navigator). Our first destination was Rhandirmwyn, a small village in the north east of Carmarthenshire. We made a pitstop in the Victorian tearooms in Abergavenny to refuel on Welsh cakes and tea. Delish!

We drove through the beautiful Brecon Beacons and arrived in Rhandirmwyn in the evening.

The Royal Oak turned out to be everything we had hoped for; a proper pub with plenty of ales and ciders on tap and a friendly welcome from the locals. And no music! They had even reserved a table for us for dinner, which was delicious. We steadily made our way through the different drinks on tap, then made our way upstairs to bed. But not before visiting the 'village shop' next door. To save the 11 mile drive to the nearest shops, locals could buy necessities from the pub instead! We stocked up on homemade jam, Welsh cakes and chocolate and added it to the tab.

The next morning after a breakfast of scrambled eggs with smoked salmon and a full Welsh
respectively, we went for a walk down to the river.

Back on the road again and off to Tenby!

Tenby
Tenby is a beautiful seaside town and home to Mike's Aunty who we adore - Anne and her two cats, Porgy and Chet. And her husband Mick who we are yet to meet!

We arrived just in time for lunch, delicious home-made chowder. We spent a lovely afternoon chatting, playing with the cats and wandering along the waterfront before Anne went to work. We had (very good) fish and chips for dinner and then went back to Anne's to watch a film.

The next morning we hung out with the cats some more, and Anne of course, before hitting the road back to ye olde London town.
